Cate was born in Kwa Zulu Natal and grew up in the vibrant, colourful energy of Africa. At school, her teachers described her as being like a horse with a head at both ends for she was gifted in the Sciences and the Arts. Gradually the "Art" end of the horse started to take the lead and she was already selling her work whilst still at school.
In 1997, Cate came to England, as young people do, to explore her roots. She lived and worked in the Lake District absorbing the gentleness, light and colour of picturesque England. When she married her husband, she was transplanted to London, into the hustle of the Capital. They travelled Europe widely and also went to Australia and New Zealand. Wanting to improve her qualifications, she enrolled at the burgeoning computer art faculty at the University of Abertay Dundee, Scotland, with her husband, where, for a time, the Science "end of the horse" led. She graduated in 2004 with a BA in Computer Arts - a happy blend of Science and Art! During her University years she was selling her pictures through The Gallery in Sedbergh, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. She also completed a Portfolio Development course at Dundee College, and a Stained Glass workshop at Leith School of Art and a course on Painting for a Living.
Cate now lives in the sunny south of England where she is exploring her talent. She is able to work in a completely realistic style and also more intuitively to create abstract, inspirational and decorative works. She has a strong sense of the colour of things, which she absorbed during her childhood, and of the simplicity of shape and line to which form can be reduced. She delights in playing with textures.
She is a proficient photographer producing delightful and surprising images.
Cate has quiet confidence yet a humility about her work that makes her constantly strive. She is exploring, experimenting and growing. The Art "end of the horse" is leading her into exciting pastures.
